India Vision Institute’s year-long “National Optometry Awareness Campaign” was launched today by Mr Sean Kelly, Australian Consul General for South India, with the release of a music video featuring Ollie the Optometrist & The Wizard of Oz Gang. A range of activities are planned during 2014 to raise awareness about eyecare and the important role played by optometrists in eyecare delivery.
The Oz Gang & Ollie the Optometrist with Venky who co-ordinated the filming so skillfully, Christerine who colourfully costumed the cast & helped train the little ‘uns and event manager Mohan Daniel without whom the tour would never have been so successful!
Brian Laul, director of The Wizard of Oz Show & creator of Ollie the Optometrist, speaking at Velammal Knowledge Park’s production of The Lion King where the team was honoured with momentoes. It was a truly inspired effort, very impressive for a school production. Kudos to all involved on stage and behind the scenes.
Supported by the Australia-India Council, we continue our theatre workshops for school children at Velammal Knowledge Park, where over 100 children spent the morning learning about expression, tableaux and eye care tips.
Ollie the Optometrist sat down to discuss the various issues surrounding eye care and optometry as a career in India with Prof Brien Holden, CEO of Brien Holden Vision Institute, Dr G N Rao, Chairman of L V Prasad Eye Institute and Vinod Daniel, CEO, India Vision Institute.
The evening performance at Sri Satya Sai Nigamagamam Auditorium was enthusiastically received by a huge audience that included Patrick Suckling, Australian High Commissioner to India and David Holly, Australian Consul General for South India.
